Ratan raval tata (born 28 december 1937) is an indian industrialist,philanthropist,and a former chairman of tata group from 1990 to 2012 and again as interim chairman, from october 2016 through february 2017, and continues to head its charitable trusts. he is the recipient of two highest civilian awards of india, the padma bhushan(2000). He is well known for his buisness ethics and philanthropy.
                                                                         
                                              EARLY LIFE OF RATAN TATA
Bieng the son of naval tata, ratan tata actually is not a direct descendant of the tata family.He has been adopted from an orphanage by his grandmother nanajbai tata. both his father and mother, naval and sonoo got separated in the year 1948. back then ratan tata was just ten years and his younger brother jimmy was seven.both the brothers were looked after and raised by the grandmother. ratan tata has a step-brother too. he is a first son of his father naval and stepmother simone tata. His mother tongue is gujarati. speaking of his school life, tata went to the school in mumbai and shimla , in cathedral and john connon school and bishop cotton school respectively. he did his graduation from the Riverdale country school in the year 1955. in 1962, he got a B. Arch degree in architecture with structural engineering from the cornell university. later, he completed the advance managment program in 1975 from the harvard Buisness school.

                                     Ratan tata buisness career  
In 1962, Ratan tata began his career in the tata group. at the first he used to work on the shop floor of tata steel, shoveling limestone and handling best furnace. In 1991, JRD Tata stepped down as his successor. under ratan's stewardship, tata tea attained tetley, tata motors attained jaguar land rover and tata steel attained corus. these triumphs turned tata from a large india- centric company into a global buisness with 65% revenues from abroad. he also contributed in the development of indica and nano.

ratan tata has also served in various organizations in india and abroad. he is a member of prime minister's council on trade and industry and he is also on the board of governors of the east-west center, which is the advisory board of RAND's center for Asia pacific policy. he also serves on the program board of the bill and melinda gates Foundation's india AIDS intiative.

on 28th december 2012, ratan tata retired from the tata group. it also happened to be his 75th birthday. ratan tata is succeeded by cyrus mistry, the son of pallonji mistry and the managing director of shapoorji pallonji group.

He made a comeback in october 2016 after removing cyrus mistry. A selection committee  has already been created with an aim to find successor in another four month.
